Writing Tips.

I've been struggling a lot with motivating myself to put pen to paper. Or rather, fingers to keys. Steven is my biggest encouragement when it comes to my passion for creative writing, but his encouragement never seems to outweigh my fear. I think that's truly what it is. Fear. Not fear of writing a terrible novel, but, rather, fear of writing an okay one. Words that are unmoving. Uninspiring.

Or maybe it's a fear of letting go. Letting go of my characters. Vulnerably placing them on paper to be a subject of critic. A fear of not adequately articulating how amazing they are. How strong and courageous. How real.

In college I wrote volumes and volumes. Mostly trash, I admit. Inspiration would strike and I'd scribble it down --transferring the short story, poem, or gibberish to my laptop later. I always felt so unburdened after those bouts. As if my head was a little less foggy and my heart a little more light. Terrible or not, I think that's what I need to strive for. The clear head and light heart. I need to remember that.

Love this. I'm just starting my first semester as a creative writing major, so I hope to write lots of trash as you called it. I'm scared of writing something that's just ok too. Ahhh!
