Healthy Tastes Good

I haven't talked much lately about my "yeast free" eating habits and thought it was time to give you readers an update! If you're new to this blog, you may not know that back in February my husband and I decide to participate in a 30 day yeast free challenge. Basically this meant no grains, dairy, sugar, or fermented drinks for 4 weeks. During that time, I lost 11 pounds and experienced many other significant health benefits (you can read about those here)! The changes to my body, both external and internal, amazed me so much that I decided it was in my best interest to extend this 30 day challenge for the next 70 or so years. This commitment resulted in my husband and I adapting a yeast free/Paleo lifestyle, and other than marrying Steven and adopting Huckleberry, this has definitely been the best decision of my life!

The most common question I get concerning the way I eat is, "how do you have the time to prepare all these healthy dishes? I hardly have time to heat up a microwavable lean cuisine!" Well, why does one have time for anything?? It's because they've made that thing, whatever it is their spending their time on, a priority.

For the first time in my life, I've decided to make my health a priority. It's not always easy, but because it's a priority it usually get's done. I turn off the TV and turn on the stove, I spend less time reading blogs (gasp!) and more time researching recipes that meet my dietary needs.

But with all that said, do I think this lifestyle is for everyone? Probably not. But it works for me and I think it may possibly work for many others.

To date, I've lost 14 pounds and two pant sizes. My skin is clearer, I'm sleeping better at night, and most importantly, I feel good. And at the end of the day, I think that's ultimately what I was striving for when this all began 4 months ago.

All photos are my own taken of dishes I've prepared since eating yeast free/Paleo. To see their recipes (and read more of my experience) go here!

Girl, you know I love this so much! Health > anything else. :) Though I haven't tried it, I don't believe yeast-free is right for me. However, meat-free IS and I've noticed an unbelievable difference in myself, mentally and physically!

To each their own, as long as we're doing something and everything to better ourselves and live long, healthy lives, right?!!!

Ok, girl. Your post is a wakeup call for me. Dave and I did paleo for 2.5 months starting back in January. I loved it. Meat, veggies, fruit, nuts & fats. It's where it's at. We didn't have any trouble staying on it and we both felt better.

Fast forward to me getting a new job and us moving... and we stopped eating Paleo. I miss it and now that life is starting to normalize I want to cut grains and refined sugars back out and get this show back on the road. Most intimidating? Figuring what we need to stock up on and what to plan for meals.

I have a 5lb bag of almond flour and coconut oil so what more do I really need? :)
After seeing your great recipes I am looking forward to eating the way that made me feel better.

Glad to see it works for you, too! I wish that feeling on everyone!

I definitely need to make eating and being healthy a priority, and especially making time for it! I get so caught up with checking blogs and play time that I am horrible at cooking a healthy dinner.

So glad you wrote a post about this! I am suppose to be following a yeast free diet but am haven't been as successful as I would like, it seems like everything has yeast or sugar in it. It gets confusing at times what is on the okay list and what is not. I will definitely print out these recipes you shared. Thanks!

Good for you! I've cut down on sugar (in addition to the other things that I've eliminated in my diet) and I definitely notice a difference in my energy level! I want to try that spaghetti squash recipe. Yum!
