Huck didn't make it to our gender reveal photo shoot, but I made sure he got in on the action later that day. At first, he wasn't too thrilled about having 8 large balloons tied to his collar, but those Goldens...they'll let you do anything to them as long as you keep repeating the word treat.
"Mom, what is this thing? Can you take it off now?"
I've been reading a lot lately about how dogs can hear a baby's heartbeat in the womb and maybe even his cries (did you know babies cry in utero as soon as 28 weeks??). I'm not sure all those studies are accurate but I do know that Huck senses something is up. He is very aware that big changes are coming to our household.
And if he isn't actually hearing his little brother, studies show that he for sure smells him! Just as a dog can detect cancer in humans or an oncoming seizure, they can detect the hormonal changes that women experience when pregnant through their sense of smell. Dogs, man. They're pretty awesome creatures!
So what kind of big brother do I think Huckleberry will be? Simply the best, of course. I'm sure he will teach his little brother all the important things in life like how to chase squirrels and torment the cat. I wouldn't be surprised if in a few years my constant shadow disappears as Huck finds a new companion to follow around the house, play fetch with, and cuddle until he falls asleep. I can't think of a better friend for our little boy than Huckleberry and I know, with Huck's sweet, gentle temperament, they will have no trouble bonding.
So here's to Huck, the best big brother a boy could have!

This is so sweet, I've always dreamed of having a golden! Huck will be the best snuggle buddy and puppy brother (HA name that commercial)!!
that face in the first pic, so funny! huck is going to be the sweetest big brother!
Goldens are just the best around babies. So excited to see pictures of them together!
He is just the sweetest, and I know he'll be the best big brother on the block! And the balloons on his collar with his stately posture? Killing me softly.
I love that first picture :) I'm sure Huck will be a fantastic big brother!
D'awwwww.......also, I've never met an adult Golden who wasn't gentle and sweet toward tiny, or sick, humans. I'm foreseeing a lot of incredibly adorable photo ops with Huck and his baby brother. :)
I'm sure that Huck will be so protective and gentle with the new bundle! :)
Awww love it! My golden was just like Huck :) I'm sure he'll be best friends with baby!
Those are the most adorable pictures! I know I am biased, too, but goldens really are the best dogs!
Congratulations!! The red golden Hurley and I love following along!! Love that Huck got to participate in the gender reveal!!!
Congratulations on the little boy!! Huck will be a great big brother, I'm sure! I love his pictures. He's so photogenic. :)
You will be in heaven! I am biased but having a boy will seriously steal your heart! So so fun. What a good brother he will be:) My baby would love it if I caved and got him a dog. He is obsessed!
Precious pictures!!
Huck is so adorable. It'll be great to see how amazing he will be with the little one!
That first picture is just too adorable! Huck is going to be an amazing big brother :D
what a handsome dog huck is!! and youre right, goldens will do anything you want lol. our golden is great with our little henry... but he definitely wants to be involved and close by! make sure you include him once the baby comes home... duke got very jealous and at first we kinda shooed him away and he started to rebel and pee on the floor and become protective. not good. things are much better now, and he is very gentle and loves henry.
